Giving Back and Paying it Forward

Most people know Mookie Betts as the Dodgers’ right fielder and all-around Ace All-Star player, but he is also an avid bowler. Betts who has bowled at least 300 perfect games to date, hosted his first celebrity bowling event, Mookie Betts & Friends Bowling Tournament, Wednesday night, February 8, 2023.

Those in attendance for Betts’ charity event were Dodgers players J.D. Martinez, Miguel Vargas, former Dodger and six-time All-Star Kenny Lofton, James Loney, family members, and friends.

All came out to support and help raise funds for Betts’ The 5050 Foundation to benefit children with medical and financial needs.

Betts made the decision to act after realizing how important it was to assist kids with their medical, financial, and daily needs. He started The 5050 Foundation to help them overcome these obstacles and live their best lives while also having the opportunity to have a greater impact on the world. removing anything that may be a barrier for children.

The semi-public event was held DTLA at the Lucky Strike Bowling Alley in L.A. Live. As the clock struck 6 p.m., attendees began to walk the blue carpet (Hollywood Style) to talk with the media before entering the bowling alley.

Mookie and Brianna Betts share why it’s important to support The 5050 Foundation.

Betts believes no matter what kind of opportunity you want to provide children, whether it’s a financial or medical one, you should do it.

In addition, Brianna said, they plan to serve the community and kids in any manner they need assistance. “Skills sets in life, just anything in general.”

Event Rundown

AT 6:00 pm and running throughout the night a silent auction featuring incredible items signed by sports legends, including Magic Johnson, LeBron James, Barry Bonds, Eddie Murray, Jalen Ramsey, and Torii Hunter as well as a round of golf for two with former Dodger and six-time All-Star Kenny Lofton was held. The silent auction helped raise funds for Betts 5050 Foundation.

The winner took home a mystery bag filled with top-shelf items from select sponsors worth up to $5,000.

7:00 pm the bowling tournament got underway as Mookie and Brianna gave thanks of appreciation to all who came and to those who were participating and supporting the tournament the “bowl-off” began.

Betts picked up his bowling ball, took a position, and rolled the ball right down the middle of the lane to score a strike. The bowling pins all collapsed at once. Betts turned to face his teammates and grinned broadly, seemingly saying, “Now, that’s how you do it!”
