With the introduction of 26.2, Milk (yes, real dairy milk!) is refocusing attention on women in a world where only 5% of sports media coverage is given to female athletes. 26.2 is a potent, experiential campaign that aims to raise awareness of the myriad gender disparities in sport in addition to its promise to fund this year’s female marathon runners.

Rani stated that Milk’s goal is to empower women runners with their 26.2 campaign as a way of celebrating female runners who are paving the way for generations to come.

Milk is an Effective Performance Beverage for ALL Athletes

“For far too long female athletes have been overlooked and under supported. Our hope is that 26.2 is a reminder that Milk is not only a powerful performance beverage for ALL athletes but an ally when it comes to equality in sport,” says MilkPEP CEO Yin Woon Rani. “We recognize that equality doesn’t happen overnight but without bold change, progress cannot happen. Our 26.2 program works to shine a light on incredible female runners who are proving to future generations that their dreams matter while also serving as a kickoff to our larger dedication to feature only women in 100% of our campaigns. While we may not be able to bridge the gap alone, we are devoted to doing our part.”

Milk will Support Every Woman who Signs up for Team Milk and Runs any Marathon

Team Milk sponsored marathons.

This year, Milk plans to provide even more support by supporting every woman who signs up for Team Milk and runs any marathon, after its sponsorship of female runners at the NYC Marathon in 2022. Milk’s 26.2 campaign will highlight female runners’ journeys—from first-time marathoners to ultra-marathoners—provide female-centric training resources, offer nutritional, mental, and physical advice from top sports experts, and include a sponsorship tour, providing on-site support for any women running marathons in Denver, Chicago, and New York. Milk aspires to establish a female-led running network for women.

Every Woman Sponsored

Team Milk

An ongoing connection with Girls on the Run is marked by the establishment of the Every Woman Sponsored fund. Milk has promised to make a contribution to this fund for each woman who joins Team Milk, with the aim of raising up to $1,000,000 USD thus far. The non-profit will be able to improve its suite of curriculum thanks to this support, which will help them further tackle the underlying reasons of disparities in physical, social, and emotional health. Your run will assist her run if you join up for Team Milk.

Though 26.2 is a beginning, inequity impacts all sports, and Milk wants to be a bigger change agent. Milk has long supported female athletes, but this year the sector is increasing its dedication. Starting on International Women’s Day, @GonnaNeedMilk will also commit to featuring only women in all of its promotions and content.

Girls on the Run

The program ends with girls engaging in a service activity that has a positive impact on their communities and preparing themselves mentally and physically to run a celebratory 5K event.

“At Girls on the Run, we are committed to inspiring girls to unlock their limitless potential. In a world where nearly only 5% of sports coverage is dedicated to women, it is time for change – it is time to prove to the next generation that their dreams matter,” adds Liz Wian, Vice President of Partnerships and Development at Girls on the Run International. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Milk as they launch the Every Woman Sponsored fund to help address the root of gender inequality in sport. In addition to providing an affordable and delicious performance beverage with 13 essential nutrients that active girls need at a crucial growth period, Milk is inspiring girls everywhere to be what they can see, and that is priceless.”

26.2 is an Equalizer

While the actual marathon distance is the same for all runners, regardless of gender, 26.2 is an equalizer since women begin far further behind in terms of sponsorships, support, and visibility. Every woman who invests the time, grit, suffering, and training to cross the finish line merits praise. Because every woman is a champion, Milk is sponsoring every woman because they are all winners. When it comes to running 26.2 miles, you’re going to need milk, so it will be there for everything from training to recovery.
