The NBC television network will show the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony live in IMAX locations across the US on Friday, July 26. This is a big deal for sports broadcasting.

The Olympics are the World’s Most Famous Sporting Event

This is the first time the global event will be shown live in IMAX, showing the network’s dedication to providing an amazing viewing experience. The combination of advanced technology and the world’s most famous sporting event is set to captivate audiences and change how people experience the Olympics.

Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony Will Not be in a Stadium

The organizers are transforming the Seine River, one of the most well-known waterways in the world, into the largest dramatic stage for the first-ever Summer Olympics opening ceremony that isn’t taking place in a stadium.

Thousands of athletes from more than 200 countries will be carried past hundreds of thousands of spectators sitting on the banks of the Seine in a four-mile-long flotilla of roughly 100 boats, in place of entering a stadium.

The river procession will trace the path of the Seine past the city’s most famous landmarks, beginning at the Austerlitz Bridge next to the Jardin des Plantes, traveling through the heart of Paris, and concluding in front of the Trocadéro, which will host the show’s closing acts.

IMAX Theaters & the Opening Ceremony

By using IMAX theaters, the Opening Ceremony will be showcased with exceptional clarity and grandeur, demonstrating innovation in live event broadcasting and redefining engagement and spectatorship standards.

“We are excited to extend NBC’s coverage of the Opening Ceremony to IMAX theatres across the U.S., allowing fans to gather and watch the highly-anticipated and awe-inspiring start to the Paris Olympic Games this July,” said Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX.
