Prison arts Collective program

IWD is a result of early 20th-century efforts to enfranchise women in 1909, the year when the first National Woman’s Day was celebrated. All of this is to suggest that “We should value women and all that the female gender has achieved and continues to achieve.”

Proverb

This is a chance for any skateboarder or collector of custom-designed boards to own a one-of-a-kind work of art that honors the creativity of women and supports those who are incarcerated. You’re familiar with the proverb, “Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. However, if a man is taught to fish, you feed him for the rest of his life.”

CALIFORNIA LOCOS, established in 2011 by L.A. artist Dave Tourjé, has partnered with the Prison Arts Collective at CSUF to commission one-of-a-kind skateboards from women who are incarcerated at C.I.W. (California Institution for Women) in an effort to highlight the skills of these women.
