A Modest Crowd Attends Billie Eilish’s 2017 Debut Festival Performance

Most people associate Billie Eilish with a teenage singer-songwriter with multicolored hair whose first track “Ocean Eyes” made her famous in 2015 when she was just 13 years old.

Multi Award Winner

Among the many honors Eilish has received are a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, three MTV Video Music Awards, two American Music Awards, two Guinness World Records, two Brit Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and seven Grammys.

It might come as a surprise given all of her claims to fame that her debut festival appearance only garnered a modest audience. The performance of “Six Feet Under” by 15-year-old Eilish was captured on camera by a member of the “crowd” in 2017.

Takeaways From This

Everyone must start somewhere, so it’s crucial to never give up on your hopes and dreams, even if the initial interest isn’t as high as it is for the majority of artists that have a large fan base. -HB | Hollywood Beat magazine

recently unearthed video shows a 15-year-old Billie Eilish performing at her first festival in spring 2017, before she gained massive fame. At the time, only a few spectators were present, but notably, two girls right at the barricade were singing along. In a 2022 interview with David Letterman, Eilish reminisced about the performance at CRSSD in San Diego, recalling how the girls sang the chorus of “Ocean Eyes” with her. To note, the footage, brought to light by TikToker Jaclyn Elizabeth’s husband, actually captures Eilish performing “Six Feet Under” rather than “Ocean Eyes.” You might remember that by fall of 2017, Eilish was first interviewed by Vanity Fair.
