Gavin Stone, a right-handed pitcher, has had his contract selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Alex Vesia, a left-handed pitcher, has been optioned.

This afternoon, Stone, 24, will make his Major League debut. In six starts for the Oklahoma City Dodgers this season, he was 2-2 with a 4.74 ERA (13 ER/24.2 IP) and 27 strikeouts. In each of his previous two outings, he struck out 15 batters across 9.2 innings while giving up only one run. He went a combined 9-6 with a 1.48 ERA (20 ER/121.2 IP) and 168 strikeouts across High-A Great Lakes, Double-A Tulsa, and Triple-A Oklahoma City last season, earning him the title of 2022 Dodgers Branch Rickey Pitcher of the Year.

He had a 6-4 record with a 1.60 ERA (13 ER/73.1 IP) and 107 strikeouts with Tulsa while beginning the season with Great Lakes, going 1-1 with a 1.44 ERA (4 ER/25.0 IP). With Oklahoma City, he finished the year, pitching 23.1 innings and striking out 33 batters while giving up three earned runs. The native of Arkansas has been in the Dodger organization since being selected out of the University of Central Arkansas in the fifth round of the 2020 First Year Player Draft. He has a combined record of 13-10 with a 2.69 ERA (71 ER/237.1 IP) and 333 strikeouts.

Vesia has been sent to the Minor Leagues (“optioned”). He was removed from a team’s active 26-man roster but remains on the 40-man roster.

Last night, Vesia, 27, took the mound and threw a scoreless inning with one strikeout and one walk. He has a 0-2 record, a 7.84 ERA (9 ER/10.1 IP), and 15 strikeouts through 13 games this season. In three seasons with the Dodgers, he has an overall record of 8-3, a 2.78 ERA (32 earned runs over 103.2 innings pitched), and 147 strikeouts in 116 games. He spent portions of four Major League seasons with Miami (2020) and Los Angeles (2021-23), and his record there is 8-4 with 152 Ks in 108.0 IP. On February 12, 2021, he was originally acquired from the Miami Marlins in exchange for right-handed pitcher Dylan Floro, along with right-handed pitcher Kyle Hurt.
