The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned left-handed pitcher Justin Bruihl and chose to sign right-handed pitcher Dylan Covey to a contract. The Dodgers moved right-handed pitcher Jimmy Nelson to the 60-day disabled list in order to free up space on the 40-man roster.

Covey, 31, made six starts for Triple-A Oklahoma City and was 1-0 with a 4.22 ERA (15 ER/32.0 IP) and 28 strikeouts in seven games. The native of Southern California has spent parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues with the Chicago-AL (2017–19) and Boston (2020). In 71 games (45 starts), he has a combined record of 6-29, a 6.57 ERA (193 earned runs/267.1 innings), and 184 strikeouts. In three appearances (one start) for the Dodgers during Spring Training, he struck out eight batters while giving up two runs over 6.0 innings.
On January 30, 2023, he agreed to a minor league free agent contract with the Dodgers.

Bruihl has been “optioned” to the Minor Leagues. He is no longer on the team’s current 26-man roster, but he is still listed on the 40-man roster.
Last night, Bruihl, 25, pitched two innings and gave up two runs on three hits. He has a 2.53 ERA (3 ER/10.2 IP) and 12 strikeouts through nine games this year. He has made two starts in 54 games for the Dodgers and is 1-1 with a 3.23 ERA (19 ER/53.0 IP), 36 strikeouts, and a batting average against against left-handed hitters of.192 (20-for-104) with 20 strikeouts. The southpaw completed his college career at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo before being signed on July 15, 2017, as a non-drafted free agent.
