In exchange for right-handed pitcher Yency Almonte and infielder Michael Busch, the Los Angeles Dodgers received minor league pitcher Jackson Ferris and minor league outfielder Zyhir Hope from the Chicago Cubs.

The 19-year-old Ferris had 18 appearances for Myrtle Beach during the previous season, going 2-3 with an ERA of 3.38. He gave up 35 hits and struck out 77 hitters in 56.0 innings. He was flawless at IMG Academy (FL) in his junior year, going 8-0 with a 0.55 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 50.2 innings pitched. Before being selected by the Cubs in the second round (47th overall) out of IMG Academy, the left-hander threw for Team USA during the summer of 2021.

Hope, 18, played for the AZL Cubs in 11 games the previous year. In those games, he slashed 286/.419/.543, with three home runs and nine RBI. He was selected from Colonial Forge High School (VA) in the eleventh round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft. Hope, a left-hander, stole 29 bases in his final high school season while hitting.538 with nine home runs and 38 RBI.
