Unfortunately, it did not go down that way.

First Inning

This was Glasnow’s fifth start as a Dodger, and his first pitch to Abrams was hit into centerfield, a lead-off double.

Jesse Winker goes after the first pitch but fouls off. Winker was Glasnow’s first strikeout of the game. Thomas was third to bat for the Nationals and hit a fly ball toward third that hit the ground and bounced. Muncy caught the bounce and threw to first for the second out. Abrams advanced to third.

Glasnow needed one more strike to end the top of the first. He threw his third pitch to Gallo, and the pitch was wild. It bounced off of Smith and rolled down the third base line, and Abrams took advantage and scored.

Score: 1-0 Nationals

The Dodgers were down with one out, and Ohtani came to bat, got a base hit to right field, and took first base. Freeman connected with the ball, and it flew out to right field, sending Ohtani to third, and Freeman took first base.

All seemed to be moving in the right direction for the Boys in Blue. Smith hit a sacrificial fly into centerfield and brought in Ohtani to tie the game with two outs.

Score: 1-1

Muncy doubled, and Taylor was out after hitting a fly to centerfield, bringing Muncy in. The Dodgers took the lead, 2-1.

Top of the Third

Abrams scored a solo home run off Glasnow to tie the game 2-2. Gallo hits and brings in Winker, giving the Nationals a 3-2 edge.

TOP OF THE FIFTH

It started to get ugly for the home team. On a 3-2 pitch to Garcia Jr., it all started to fall apart. Garcia Jr. hit a three-run homer, giving the Nationals the biggest lead of the game, 6-2.

BOTTOM OF THE SIXTH

Ohtani reaches first base as a result of catcher interference, hoping to stop the bleeding. He steals second and advances to third on a wild pitch to Freeman. Ohtani scores on Smith’s baseline hit to third. Smith is out at first.

With two outs and a 3-6 score in favor of the Nationals, the Dodgers were unable to repair the damage inflicted by the Washington team, and they recorded their third out.

BOTTOM OF THE EIGHT

Teoscar Hernandez is on second base, and Max Muncy is at bat, giving the Dodgers another opportunity to score and take the lead. Muncy hit to right field and took first, driving in Hernandez.

Score: 6-4 Nationals

Time ran out for the Dodgers and the Nationals took the win in the first game of three.
