Born on May 6, 1931, Willie Mays is regarded as one of the best baseball players in history. As a former professional player, Mays played for the New York Mets and the New York/San Francisco Giants for the majority of his 22-season career. In addition to being known for his outstanding base-running, hitting, and fielding skills, he is most recognized for his iconic over-the-shoulder catch during the 1954 World Series. Mays won multiple honors, including two National League MVP trophies, and was a 24-time All-Star. Both players and spectators will continue to honor his contributions to baseball and his legacy as an athlete for years to come.
