In just a few short hours on January 20, Inauguration Day, the incoming president-elect Trump and vice-president-elect Vance will be sworn in, marking the beginning of a brand new chapter in our nation’s journey. This year, Inauguration Day aligns with a federal holiday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, reminding us of the promise of hope, unity, and progress.
The U.S. Capitol building in Washington, DC, is often the site of the inauguration ceremony. Something has changed.

Due to intense weather conditions the swearing-in ceremony will move inside the Capitol Rotunda and the traditional parade will change to the Capital One Arena; all other events remain the same.
The Rotunda is a large, circular room in the U.S. Capitol.

Oaths of Office
The vice-president-elect J.D. Vance will be sworn in first and recite the oath of office that has been used since 1884.

The oath of office is as follows:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”
Sometime around noon, president-elect Trump will place his hand on the bible and be sworn in typically by the chief justice of the Supreme Court, and recite Article II, Section I of the U. S. Constitution as follows:
Bibles to be Used
On Friday, Trump‘s inaugural committee announced he will use the same two Bibles as in 2017: a family Bible from his mother and one used by Abraham Lincoln in 1861.
Vice President-elect JD Vance will be sworn in on a Bible from his great-grandmother.

Presidential Oath
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
