Where the Film Stands Now
The Weight of War completed filming in Central California in late 2025 and is currently in post-production. Director and writer, Gunnar E. Garrett Jr., is working on the final cut with plans for a targeted release date set for summer 2026.

The Main Focus of the Story
The Weight of War follows Sergeant Clayton, a soldier returning home from Afghanistan after losing a leg and an arm. Back home, he faces addiction, survivor’s guilt, and a system that’s forgotten him. Clayton has to come face to face with his past and figure out how to regain the will to live.
The film focuses on the internal battle many veterans face. Clayton realizes that the toughest battle isn’t always what happens on the outside; it’s the one inside his head. Confronting grief, identity loss, and the pressure to find purpose in life is a must for him.
Why This Story Matters
Garrett brings personal military experience into the film. He spent 12 combined years in the United States Air Force as well as the United States Army. Garrett’s personal experience shapes a story rooted in the emotional and psychological costs of war after service ends.

From Exclusive to Now
Casting details for the film were first shared with Hollywood Beat magazine in a November 2025 guest submission from Garrett. At that time, production had just begun. The project has since completed filming and moved into post-production.
