Miller Leads the Dodgers to Victory in the First Game

The first game of the Freeway Series was played between the Los Angeles Angels and the Los Angeles Dodgers today.

Light rain fell as the game kicked off, adding an unexpected twist to the showdown. Not even the threat of rain could deter the two Los Angeles teams from facing each other on the field.

Dodgers: Bobby Miller

White Sox: Griffin Canning

 Not much action from Shohei Ohtani against his former teammates.

First Inning

Score: 0-0

Bottom of the Second

At the bottom of the second inning, Canning pitches to Will Smith and unintentionally hits him on the hand, allowing Smith to advance to first base. Max Muncy steps up to the plate, facing a tense situation with one ball and two strikes. Incredibly, Muncy drives the ball to right field, securing his place on first base with skill and determination. It’s moments like this that fuel the passion for the game!

Teoscar Hernandez confidently steps up to bat with Smith at second and Muncy at first with no outs. Demonstrating his ability at the plate, he unfortunately strikes out, leading to Outman coming up to bat. Despite the pressure, Canning throws four pitches to Outman, and on the fifth pitch, Outman hits a fly out to second base and is quickly retired from the game.

Jason Heyward steps up to the plate to face Canning. On the fifth pitch, he delivers a powerful hit, sending the ball flying for an RBI double down the center. This outstanding play brings in Smith and advances Muncy to third base. An impressive display of skill and precision from Heyward.

Score: 1-0 Dodgers

Gavin Lux gives the Dodgers a boost. Lux hits a 2-run single toward 3rd base bringing in Muncy and Heyward. Lux takes first base.

Score: 3-0 Dodgers

Mookie Betts doubles off a fastball thrown by Hayden Seig putting Lux on third and himself on second base. Ohtani is walked and bases are loaded. With a chance to break the game wide open, Freddie Freeman comes up to bat. Seig walks Freeman bringing in a run for the Dodgers.

Breaking News amidst the Freeway Series games:

Score: 4-0 Dodgers – Bases loaded.

Smith strikes out leaving the bases loaded.

Top of the Fifth

With two outs and no one on base, Bobby Miller comes out to the game having thrown 80 pitches. Michael Grove comes in to finish the top of the fifth inning.

Bottom of the Fifth

Canning pitches to Smith who bats and is thrown out at first. Muncy is walked, Teoscar Hernandez strikes out as does Outman.

Score: 4-0 Dodgers 

Top of the Seventh

Ryan Brasier takes the mound. Ehire Adrianza gets on base. There’s one on base with one out for the Angels. Zach Neto hits a pitch toward centerfield which brings in Adrianza – a RBI triple.

Score: 4-1 Dodgers

The damage is not over. The Dodgers challenge the play. They call for a Ball Lodged review. The challenge is not successful. Miguel Sano hits a ball out towards first base and Neto scores giving the Dodgers only a two-point lead.

There are two outs and no one on base. Jo Adell gets on first Jake Marisnick hits a ground ball off the third base bag and brings in Adell.

Score: 4-3 Dodgers

Roberts takes Brasier out. 83 comes in to pitch and ends the inning.

Bottom of the Seventh

Zuniga takes the mound for the Angels. He throws a pitch to Trey Sweeney who hits one down the line at first – a fair ball lead-off double. Chris Taylor is out at first and Sweeney advances to third base. Kike Hernandez hits a sacrifice fly to left field bringing in Sweeney.

Score: 5-3 Dodgers

Dodgers take the win over the Los Angeles Angels in the first game of the Freeway Series.

“I think I’m taking the right steps to be where I needed to be,” Miller said. “Changeup wasn’t too good early in the game, but I picked it up a little bit later in the game.”


Final score: 5-3 Dodgers

NEXT GAME: Dodgers vs Angels on Monday night. Gavin Stone is expected to pitch.
