As the Dodgers prepare to begin their eighth homestand of the season this Tuesday, July 2, there is an actual feeling of optimism. This homestand will be more than just a regular six-game series; on July 2–4, the Boys in Blue will play the Arizona Diamondbacks, and from July 5–7, they will play the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Dodgers are planning to hold Japanese Heritage Night at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, July 2, sponsored by Daiso. A variety of pregame acts and in-game programs will be available to fans in honor of the strong Japanese community in Los Angeles.

Fans who arrive early for the game will find plenty of entertainment at Centerfield Plaza when the stadium gates open at 5:10 p.m. Eight Taiko drums will be used in the performance by the local Venice group Koshin Taiko. Additionally, DJ Crew, a Tokyo-based DJ originally from Kanagawa, Japan, will spin on the plaza. DJing from the age of sixteen, he has provided music for important occasions including the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics and Formula 1. The “Samurai Guitarist,” MIYAVI, is a musician, actor, and philanthropist. He will perform before the game, collaborating with Koshin Taiko, and he will also throw out an Honorary First Pitch.

Anna Aya, a rising star in J-Pop whose debut single “Someone Else” peaked at No. 46 on the US radio charts, will play three songs to wrap up the entertainment on the plaza.

George Takei, originally from Los Angeles, is set to throw the first pitch and declare, “It’s Time for Dodger Baseball!” He is known for his roles in Star Trek and as a civil rights leader.

Customized Jersey

As part of the ticket package, Dodger Stadium offers customized jerseys to those buyers upon entry, featuring koi fish on the sleeves, a pheasant feather texture, and “Dodgers” written in phonetic Japanese on the reverse, paying homage to Shohei Ohtani‘s birthplace in Japan.

A Special Honor

The Dodgers will honor 110-year-old Yoshiko Miwa for being the oldest Japanese American in the country, believed to be the second-oldest resident of California, and the oldest survivor of the internment camps during World War II. She worked as a nurse, was a lifelong Dodgers fan, and has a large and loving family with ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
