Game 2 recap

Dodgers win Game 2 of 2024 World Series – Score: 4-2

Game Day

Yamamoto took the mound as the Dodgers’ game starter.

First inning

Top

Up first for the Yankees was Torres who Yamamoto walked. Juan Soto came to bat eager to do something to get the Yankees on the board and grounds one to the left but is thrown out at first.

Judge swung hard at the pitches thrown by Yamamoto attempting to put the team on the board but to no avail. Struck out with one on base. Stanton hit a fly that was caught bring the Yankees time at bat to an end.

Bottom

Ohtani strikes out, Betts gets on base and Freeman comes up to bat the crowd stands in anticipation of another great at bat for #5. It did not happen; Freeman fly was caught for the third out.

Score: 0-0

Second inning

Top

Chisholm up to bat hits and sprints to first but not in time. First out for the Yankees in the seond inning. Rizzo is walked. Volpe bats hit high fly to centerfield which is caught by Edman.

Wells the Yankees catcher grounds to second and is thrown out at first bring the top of the second to an end.

Bottom

HomerunTommy Edman steps up to the plate to face Rodon and cracks a high flying homerun ball to left field putting the Dodgers on the board first.

Score: 1-0 Dodgers

Kike Hernandez strikes out and so does Muncy. Two outs are logged as Will Smith comes to bat. After a 2-2 count, Smith steps back a bit takes a breath, prepares to bat and takes a swing and connects as he hits a line drive towards first, runs and is thrown out.

Score: 1-0 Dodgers

Third inning

Top

Verdugo is out with a high flying ball hit to left field, where the outfielder makes the catch. Meanwhile, Torres is out at first base after a ground ball hit towards the first baseman who manages to secure it just in time. With two outs already recorded, Soto steps up to the plate, a picture of concentration, and slams one high into right field sending it out of the park and putting the Yankees on the board, tying the game in a thrilling display of power hitting that energizes the fans and shifts the momentum in the Yankees’ favor.

Score: 1-1

Judge hits one into right field which is caught by Betts – out number three.

Bottom

Rojas is out and Ohtani comes up to bat for the second time during the game and is struck out. Two outs and next to bat is Mookie Betts who hits one into left field and gets on base.

Teoscar Hernandez takes the opportunity to put his team back in the lead, hits a two run home run that gets the crowd and team excited.

Score: 3-1 Dodgers

Freeman on a full count smashes another homer into center field. A repeat of his hit in game 1. The stadium is electric.

Score: 4-1 Dodgers

Edman seeks to get in on the engery going and doubles. Two outs and Kike Hernandez up to bat. Edman steals third. The Yankees bullpen gets going due to Rodon giving up multiple homeruns.

Kike’s fly to left is caught ending the scoring run of the Dodgers in the third inning.

SCORE: 4-1

Fouth inning

Top

Stanton out. Chisholm out. Rizzo strikes out. Yamamoto continued to ride the curve keeping the Yankees in search of a run and a possible win.

Bottom

Yankees change pitchers

Rodon strikes Muncy out but the Yankees change pitchers. Rodon out and Jake Cousins in. Smith faces Cousins and hits one off the center field wall for a double. Aaron Judge couldn’t get his hands on it in time to get Smith out.

Rojas hits a ground ball towards first and thrown out. Smith takes third base. Ohtani bats and is out.

SCORE: 4-1

Fifth inning

Top

Yamamoto pitches to Volpe who strike out. Wells hits a soft bouncing ball causing Yamamoto to run to first base to get him out. Verdugo bats and is out off of a light fly ball to left field.

Bottom

Betts up Betts out. Tesocar Hernandez delivers a solid base hit to right field, skillfully placing the ball just beyond the reach of the outfielders and successfully getting on base. In a hope to stop the bleeding, Cousins is replaced with Tim Hill, whose fresh arm is expected to bring a new level of intensity to the game.

Freeman’s fly to center field is caught. Two outs and Edman bats. Full count and it’s over. Three outs and the Dodgers are back outfield.

SCORE: 4-1 Dodgers

Sixth inning

Top

With one out on the board, Soto bats and grounds towards first and is thrown out. Yamamoto’s consistent pitching brings him face to face with Judge who he successfully strikes out.

1-2-3 and we are in the bottom of the sixth inning. Yamamoto only gave up one

Bottom

Kike Hernandez faces Tim Hill and is out. Max Muncy although he went after the pitches Hill threw, he strikes out. Pitching change – Clay Holmes comes in to pitch to Will Smith. Smith is out.

SCORE: 4-1 Dodgers

Seventh inning

Top

Yamamoto against Stanton who looks like he’s ready to crack it open but it doesn’t happen. He hits a fly to right field and is out.

After 86 pitches, Roberts comes out to send Yamamoto into the dugout for the game. Fans stand to celebrate his job well done on the mound for the Dodgers. Roberts brings in Banda to finish the top of the seventh inning.

Banda strikes out Chisholm for the second out. Rizzo who had a walk and a strike out at this point in the game is hit and walked. Volpe is out and the inning is over.

Bottom

Holmes pitches to Rojas looking for a 1-2-3 inning. With a full count on Rojas, Holmes throws a pitch and Rojas swings on what would have been ball four and strikes out.

Ohtani comes up to bat and fans point their camera at the double threat in hopes of catching an Ohtani homerun on their camera. Not this inning. Ohtani is walked. Betts goes down swinging.

Teoscar Hernandez steps up to bat as Ohtani attempts to steal. He is thrown out at second, but during his slide, he landed heavily on his left arm, raising concerns of a potential injury. Medical personnel from the Dodgers quickly escort him to the dugout. Fans watch anxiously, speculating whether one of the top players of the Dodgers lineup will be able to continue or if he will be sidelined for the remainder of the series.

SCORE: 4-1 Dodgers

Eighth inning

Top
Michael Kopech confidently steps in to pitch to Wells, delivering a strikeout. Verdugo is out as well. Torres sends a towering pop-up, and he too is out.

Bottom

Mark Leiter Jr. steps up to the mound for the bottom of the eighth inning. Teoscar Hernandez out. Freddie Freeman takes the plate, igniting chants of Freddie, Freddie, Freddie from the enthusiastic crowd. Freeman puts up a great fight but is thrown out at first.

Tommy Edman comes up and is out to end the inning.

SCORE: 4-1 Dodgers

Ninth inning – three outs away from victory

Top

Blake Treinen delivers a pitch to Juan Soto, who makes solid contact, sending a high fly ball that strikes the wall in right field. Betts is unable to field it in time. Aaron Judge steps up to bat, but after three pitches, Treinen overthrows his delivery, allowinf Soto to advance to second base. Judge is subsequently struck out.

Stanton who had yet to make any noteworthy moves all night hits the ball off the third base bag which bounces down the third base line allowing Soto to score for the Yankees.

Score: 4-2

Chisholm steps up with one out and Stanton on first. After Treinen delivers a high fastball, Chisholm makes solid contact and sends it to right field, reaching first base safely. The tying run is now on base, ready to make an impact.

Rizzo up at bat with one out and two on base. Treinen pitches his 27th pitch and hits Rizzo to load the bases.

Volpe tries to avoid being the second out but can’t lay off an outside pitch and strikes out. Treinen is taken out of the game and Alex Vesia is brought in to get the third out of the inning an end the game.

Vesia faces Trevino and with one pitch the game is over with a high fly to center field where Tommy Edman makes the catch.

Final SCORE: 4-2 Dodgers

Dodgers win their second game of the World Series against the Yankees with an ending score of 6-3.
