10/2024-World Series

It was time for game 5 .

Let’s Play Ball

Shohei Ohtani hit a fly out to start the game. Betts grounds out. Freeman hits a high fly that is caught by Verdugo in left field. The top of the first is over. Yankees starting pitcher Cole was looking to set the tone for his team and the Yankees’ fans.

Flaherty pitches

Jack Flaherty needed to answer Gerrit Cole’s, “I’ve got command of this game!” It did not happen as he faced Aaron Judge, who finally caught a first-pitch fastball and knocked it out of the park with a two-run home run.

Yankees’ fans erupt. Score: 2-0 Yankees

Chisholm Jr. steps up next and cracks one into right field for another home run for the Yankees. The score is now 3-0 Yankees.

Last night’s win seems to have put some energy into the Yankees lineup.

Score: 3-0 Yankees

Confidently, Cole returns to the mound, replicating his flawless 1-2-3 inning and shutting down the first six Dodgers hitters, fueling the Yankees’ momentum.

Dodgers needed to stop the Yankees and get it going before reaching the point of no return. Flaherty gives up a leadoff double to Volpe. Wells grounds out and Volpe advances to third. Verdugo’s base hit drives in Volpe, and he takes first base. Bottom of the second, with one out, and a 3-0 score for the Yankees.

Flaherty out – Banda in

The Dodgers replaced Flaherty with Banda in an attempt to address the gap left by Flaherty. Following a poorly executed pitch by catcher Will Smith, Verdugo advanced to second base. Banda’s subsequent pitch to Soto resulted in a walk, allowing Judge to step up to the plate. With two runners on base and two outs, Judge was also walked. Chisholm Jr. was retired at first base, concluding the bottom of the second inning.

To take control of the game and and win or return home for Game 6, the Dodgers needed to step up their efforts and establish that they were a competitive team.

Score: 4-0 Yankees

Cole shines on the mound in the top of the third, allowing the Yankees to maintain their lead. He walked Lux and faced Ohtani, who made contact but was ultimately retired, marking yet another difficult, scoreless inning for the Dodgers.

Stanton shows what he can do by hitting a solo home run off Brasier. The Yankees lead 5-0. The Yankees refuse to go down without a fight. Brasier gets out of the third without allowing the Yankees to score again.

Score: 5-0 Yankees

Betts and Cole come face to face as the top of the fourth begins and is walked. Freeman cracks a high fly to center field but is robbed of a home run by Judge, who catches the ball and is out. Betts takes second on a sacrifice out by T. Hernandez.

Gerrit Cole is absolutely a force of nature, dominating the mound and decimating the Dodgers with incredible ease. The Dodgers are still scoreless, unable to get into a rhythm against his unflinching pitching!

As Verdugo steps up to the plate, anticipation fills the air with a full count against Kopech. Kopech walks him. Torres is put on base, and Judge takes the plate. The Yankees’ fans stand in anticipation of another home run from their center field player. It does not happen, as his fly ball into center field is caught.

Two outs and Chisholm is at bat hoping to do more damage to the Dodgers by getting on base or hitting a three run home run. Kopech was not having it. He struck him out to close the inning.

Top of the fifth

K. Hernandez gets on base as he hits a base hit off Cole. It’s the top of the fifth, and the Yankees have yet to change pitchers. Edman hits a fly to center field, and Judge mishandles the ball, giving the Dodgers some hope as Hernandez takes second. Will Smith has a chance to get a score on the board for the Dodgers with no outs and two men on base. Smith hits one down left field, which should be an easy out for the Yankees, but Chisholm mishandles the ball, and Hernandez is safe.

Two errors by the Yankees, and the bases are loaded with no outs when Lux comes to bat. Cole strikes him out. Ohtani has the chance to hit a grand slam and put the Dodgers on the board, but Cole does not allow it to happen. He strikes out Ohtani.

Betts ignites the Dodgers’ offense as he sends a powerful grounder down first base, sprinting to first and securing his place thanks to a slip from the Yankees’ defense. The score is now 5-1 in favor of the Yankees, but there’s a spark of hope for the Dodgers! Freeman steps up to the plate, ready to shift the momentum in their favor. He connects beautifully with the ball, hitting it straight to center and bringing in two more exciting runs!

Dodgers make their move to take the lead.

T. Hernandez hits one off the wall in center field and Judge has trouble getting to it in time to stop the Dodgers from scoring and tying the game.

Score 5-5

Cole had no hits in the first four inning but now it looks as though it’s starting to go down hill. Cole walks Muncy with 2 outs on the board. K. Hernandez at bat with two on base. Yankees’ fans are nervous. Hernandez grounds to second and brings the third out as Muncy runs towards the base.

The long lasting top of the fifth inning is over.

Alex Vesia pitches to Stanton who is thrown out at first. Rizzo makes the second out. Volpe hits a base hit off of Vesia giving a glimmer of hope to his team and their fans. Yankees catcher Wells is hit by a pitch, checked out, and takes first base. Verdugo looking to do damage to the Dodgers but is walked to load the bases.

Torres is out. Vesia takes the inning.

Score 5-5 Yankees

Yankees maintain confidence in Cole as they send him back out to take the top of the sixth.

Dodgers send in Graterol in to face Juan Soto. Soto takes a lead off walk bringing up Judge. Looking to repeat his first inning home run Judge takes the plate but can’t complete the task. On the eighth pitch by Graterol, Judge is walked and no outs in the bottom of the sixth.

Chisholm gets on at first, there is an out on Judge at second, and Soto advances to third. Stanton sacrifices an out to send Soto home to break the tie. 2 outs, one base, and Rizzo at bat and is walked.

Score 6-5 Yankees

With Volpe coming to bat, Roberts makes a pitching change. Graterol is out and Treinen is brought in to pitch. Fans stand looking for something spectaular from Volpe. Runners are at first and second as Volpe grounds one to short and is thrown out.

Gritt Cole still pitching until…

Ohtani grounds in the top of the seventh and is out. Mookie Betts squares up against the Yankees Cole and hits one right to him and is thrown out at first. Freddie Freeman is walked and that ends the night for Gritt Cole.

The Yankees introduce Clay Holmes to the game. With T. Hernandez at the plate, Freeman on first base, and two outs recorded, Holmes issues a walk to Hernandez, presenting the Dodgers with a crucial opportunity to tie or take the lead. Muncy faces a pitch, takes a ball, and subsequently strikes out. Thus, the Dodgers conclude yet another scoreless inning.

Treinen, the sixth pitcher for the Dodgers, demonstrated skill by refusing to concede a hit, striking out every Yankees player he faced, beginning with Wells. Verdugo was unable to reach base, and Torres grounded a ball to third base, where Muncy made a precise throw to first for the out.

Score 6-5 Yankees

Tommy Kahnle hopped on the mound for the Yankees and let K. Hernandez snag a hit to left field, getting on base. Then, Tommy Edman breaks his bat and gets on base with an in field hit.

Will Smith is walked with no outs and the bases are loaded.

Another pitching change by the Yankees. They send in Luke Weaver. With a full count on Lux, Weaver gives up a hit to Lux who sacrifices a fly to bring one in to tie the score.

Score 6-6

A catchers interference is called on Ohtani’s at bat and the Yankees challenage the call but it does not go in their favor. Ohtani is put on base to load the bases. Betts hits and is out but brings in another run giving the Dodgers the lead.

Scord 7-6 Dodgers

Freddie Freeman strikes out and the Yankees get another chance to do work ever it takes to prolong the series

Treinen throws to Soto, who hits a grounder to first, where Freeman throws to Treinen, who hustles to cover the base to make the out. Yankees’ fans are looking to Judge to give them hope, and he does. He doubles and gets to second base with only one out on the board.

Chisholm has three balls and one strike and is walked. It’s the bottom of the eighth, with one out, and two on base as Stanton cracks one into right field. Betts catches the ball and stops the Yankees from advancing and tying or taking the lead.

Rizzo is seeking to do something major for the home team and give the fans another boost of energy. He goes down swinging. Treinen holds the Yankees to a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

Score 7-6 Dodgers

Yankees leave Weaver in the game. He pitches to T. Hernández, who grounds and gets on base. Taylor comes in to run for Hernández. Muncy’s fly is caught and is the first out in the top of the ninth. K. Hernández comes up to bat, and while waiting to hit with a 1-1 count, Taylor is advanced to second base due to Weaver’s balk motion on the mound.

Weaver is taken out of the game and replaced by Leiter Jr. Tommy Edman bats with a 2-2 count and one out on the board. On a full count, Edman swings and is out. Will Smith can’t do it; he hits one to third and is out at first.

Score 7-6 Dodgers

The New York Yankees have one more chance to try and stop the possible end of their opportunity to win the World Series championship.

Walker Buehler in to finish up for the Dodgers. Only two outs to go and the Dodgers are World Series Champions once again. Buehler pitches to Wells and strikes him out. Verdugo comes up and is crushed by the Dodgers’ RHP.

It’s finally over! The Dodgers win the 2024 World Series. Hats off to Buehler, who held it together and brought home the win.

Final SCORE: 7-6 Dodgers

The Dodgers win their eighth World Series Championship.

Game 4 of the World Series does not bring victory to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
