Are you a fan of heartwarming Christmas movies? If so, then The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is defiantly the movie to add to your Christmas movie watch list. It will touch your heart, make you laugh, and remind you of the deeper meaning of Christmas. This is truly not only a family movie, but a movie for all who celebrate Christmas. It will reinforce the spirit of Christmas for the viewer.

THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER focuses on two families and their effect on the town’s annual Christmas Pageant. The Bradleys are your typical family of four caught up in the everyday matters of life, even during the Christmas season. The second family in the story is a group of six children, the Herdmans. Life isn’t that great for the Herdmans. The kids are left on their own to fend for themselves, and that means wreaking havoc everywhere they go.

As can happen in life, the unexpected occurs to the director of the church’s Christmas pageant. She has an accident and is unable to perform her normal pageant duties. In an attempt to extend well wishes to the strong-willed Ms. Armstrong, Grace, played by Judy Greer, finds herself as the new pageant director. Grace feels somewhat confident that she can do a great job as the new pageant director until she comes face to face with the Herdmans. Each one wanting a part in the show, mainly because they learned that snacks are given away at the church.

Beth, played by Molly Belle Wright, has had unwanted encounters in school with Imogene, the oldest Herdman girl. She prays that it will all go away—all being the Herdmans. However, she realizes that she must confront the unruly mob of new pageant members. Beth recognizes that to support her mother in her new role as director, she must stand up to the Herdmans.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever opens the viewer’s eyes to the realities of life and how things aren’t always as they seem. It’s true that the Herdmans terrorize classmates and many adults. But it’s not until Grace becomes the director of the Christmas pageant and has to deal with the kids firsthand do we see the story of their lives unfold.

We are reminded of the true meaning of Christmas through the eyes of the Herdmans. When they discover unknown facts about Jesus, his birth, and his parents, they eagerly consume all available information about the Christmas story.

I highly recommend this movie! This movie is for the entire family and anyone who adores good Christmas movies. I liked the movie because of its honest take on life. The moral of the movie reminds us to go beyond the obvious and not always judge a book by its cover.

Directed by Dallas Jenkins (“The Chosen”) and based on the international bestseller by Barbara Robinson, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever on a scale of 1-5, I give this movie a 4.

Two families go head to head during Christmas.
