Kal Penn and John Cho Star in Toyota’s New EV Ads

What do Toyota and Hollywood have in common?

Today, June 4, Toyota kicked off a brand new all-electric advertising campaign that dives right into Hollywood: a collection of short films featuring John Cho and Kal Penn, directed by the Grammy Award-winning Joseph Kahn.

He has collaborated with major artists like Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, and U2.

“Toyota has genuinely been a part of my life for years, so this campaign felt personal from the beginning. My very first car was a Toyota Paseo, and the first brand-new car I ever bought was a Toyota Prius. There’s a real trust and familiarity I’ve always associated with the brand, so getting to partner on something this fun and creative made it even more meaningful for me.”

Four 30-second Commercials

Toyota’s latest campaign, created with the help of their long-time Asian American marketing agency Intertrend, features four 30-second commercials.

  • Camping and Escape, starring John Cho
  • Jangal and Chase, starring Kal Penn

Instead of the usual electric vehicle messages, these ads focus on monster encounters, exciting action scenes, and humor.

The commercials highlight Toyota’s all-electric lineup, which includes the Toyota bZ Woodland and the Toyota C-HR.
