Songs such as “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “I Will Always Love You” helped make Parton one of the most well-known singers and songwriters in the music industry.

Dolly Parton’s career went far beyond just making music. She also became a well-known actress, a businesswoman, and an author, all while still writing and performing her songs throughout her life.

Her work for charity was a big part of what she is remembered for.

In 1995, she started the Imagination Library, which has given millions of kids free books from the time they are born until they turn five.

This program was inspired by her father, Robert Lee Parton Sr., who never learned how to read or write.

The Imagination Library has sent out over 300 million books all around the world.

A Final Chapter Filled With New Projects

Parton continued to work in her 80th year.

In July, her official website shared the exciting news that DOLLY: A True Original Musical would be heading to Broadway. The preview performances were set to start on December 7, 2026 and opening night was planned for January 19, 2027, which would have been Parton’s 81st birthday.

Just days before her death, Parton’s website announced that she had received 82 new global sales certifications across 14 countries, underscoring the continued reach of her music.

Health Concerns Preceded Her Death

Parton had recently spoken publicly about health challenges.

She had delayed shows and events because of health problems. In a message about her postponed Las Vegas shows, Parton mentioned that her doctors recommended medical procedures and called it a personal “100,000-mile check-up.”

Recent reports also indicated that Parton had been receiving medical care in Nashville.

Her parents, Avie Lee Caroline Owens and Robert Lee Parton Sr., preceded her in death.
