As you know, it takes skill and artistry to bake a really good cake. And what better time to perfect you skill than National Cake Day.


3 Cakes to Bake


These three cakes are sure to inspire you to get in the kitchen and bake a delicious cake.

Each has been tested by one of our bakers and found to satisfy the craving for cake. The Banana Cake was baked as cupcakes instead of a cake.

Chocolate Cake Pan Cake

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups (6 1/4 ounces)
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon espresso powder

A Sweet Potato Cake with Frosting of Toasty Marshmallows

Ingredients

Serves 16 in approximately 2-inch squares

Cake
1 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes (about 2 to 3 medium or 2 large)
2 cups (250 grams) all-purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon table salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon (more to taste) ground ginger
Two pinches (more to taste) ground cloves
1/2 cup (1 stick or 115 grams) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup (190 grams) packed light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs

 Marshmallow Frosting: Our tester chose to make a Cream Cheese Frosting for the cake instead of the Marshmallow Frosting.

An easy recipe for Banana Cake, covered in cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1⅓ cups granulated sugar
¼ cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
4 ripe bananas, mashed
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
