With a combined record of 59-43, a 3.79 ERA, and 754 strikeouts in 792.1 innings, the Virginia native has spent parts of 14 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Chicago-AL (2009–10), Arizona (2010–16), Pittsburgh (2017), Los Angeles (2018, 2022–24), Toronto (2019), Washington (2019–21), and San Diego (2021).

Out of Old Dominion University, he was originally selected by the White Sox in the fifth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.

The 25-year-old Lipcius signed with the Dodgers on March 4 and went 2-for-4 in two exhibition games for the Los Angeles team. He played in 13 games for the Tigers the previous season, hitting .286 with a double and a home run. He signed a professional contract with the Detroit Tigers organization in 2019 and over the course of four seasons hit a.266 average with 88 doubles, 38 home runs, and 212 RBI.
