Will Smith, Catcher for the Dodgers, signs a 10-year Extension

Will Smith and the Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed on a 10-year, $140 million contract that will last until the 2033 season.

In two games at the Seoul Series in Korea, Smith, 28, opened the 2024 season with two RBI and five hits in ten at-bats. Playing in 126 games, the All-Star catcher had a stellar season in 2023, hitting.261 with 19 home runs and 76 RBI. He finished third in runs (80), fifth in home runs, tied for sixth in extra-base hits (42), seventh in total bases (203), fourth in RBI, and third in slugging percentage (.458) among all Major League catchers.

After amassing a.890 OPS with 13 home runs and 46 RBI in 66 first-half games, he was selected for his first All-Star game and started as the backup in Seattle.

In 486 games, the athlete out of Louisville has racked up 91 home runs and 308 RBI in his sixth season with the Dodgers. The catcher for the 2022 All-MLB Second Team is a career player.263 batting average and a.842 on-base percentage as the team’s regular catcher.

He is among the Major League catching leaders in OPS (1st), homers (2nd), hits (436, 4th), runs (272, 2nd), extra-base hits (182, 3rd), total bases (807, 3rd), and RBI (2nd) since being called up on May 28, 2019.

Smith was initially selected by the Dodgers in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft from the University of Louisville.
