Ben Rortvedt Joins Dodgers – Roster Update

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made updates to their roster once again before Spring Training begins. The most recent change is the acquisition of catcher Ben Rortvedt and released left-handed pitcher Anthony Banda.

Rortvedt, 28, was assigned by the Cincinnati Reds on February 3 and traded to the Dodgers on July 31. He played 18 games for Los Angeles, hitting .224 with one home run and four RBIs.

He had a strong performance in September and appeared in four playoff games with a 1.071 OPS.

Rortvedt made his Major League debut in 2023 with the Minnesota Twins and has also played for the Yankees, Rays, and Dodgers, achieving a .190 batting average, nine home runs, and 52 RBIs over 227 games.

He was drafted in the second round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft from Verona High School.

Banda, 32, has a 5-1 record and a 3.19 ERA in 71 games, with an 8-3 record, 1.4 fWAR, and a 3.14 ERA in his last two seasons with the Dodgers.

Over nine Major League seasons, he has played for several teams, achieving a combined record of 15-9 and a 4.44 ERA in 209 games.

Spring training begins on February 13, 2026, when pitchers and catchers report, with the first Cactus League game on February 21, 2026, against the Angels.
