10/2024-World Series

Discounting the Yankees was not on anyone’s mind. A game four World Series win was not going to be an automatic victory for the Boys in Blue. They knew they needed to stay focused, bring all that they had in them onto the field, and not count the Yankees out until the last out of the game in the dodgers favor.

Let’s Play Ball

Yankees fans are ready as the game begins to see their team come out and stop the Dodgers from scoring, getting a lead and winning the game.

Dodgers’ top of the lineup, Ohtani flies out to short—wait, not again! But wait! Betts hits a great double down the first base line, boosting hope for the Dodgers!

Home run Freddie Freeman is back at it again; it’s like he’s trying to set the record for most home runs in one a series! Four games, four home runs – someone check if he has superpowers! This time, he crushed a two-run homer that put the Dodgers on the board in the first inning.

Score: 2-0

Yankees fans interfere with the play once again

Drama once again in the bottom of the first. Torres hits a fly to right field, Betts moves to catch it and as he does, two fans interfere with the play by holding Betts glove and arm and taking the ball out of his glove. Torres is called out.

Soto gets on base and Judge who has seven strike outs in the series, is on board to bat. Judge is walked. Two Yankees are on base with one out. Chisholm is batting in the clean up spot instead of Stanton who was to bat according to the Yankees lineup.

Chisholm hits a sacrifice fly to shortstop, getting an out but advancing Soto and Judge to second and third base. Stanton comes up next with a chance to help his team score, but he grounds out to shortstop and is out at first base.

Score: 2-0 Dodgers

The second inning sees Lux at bat for the Dodgers. He hits a fair ball down the first base line. Soto can’t get to it and Lux makes it to second base. Will Smith pops one up and is out.

Wonder Boy Tommy Edman doesn’t do so hot. He hits into a double play, and just like that, the top of the second is done.

Up first for the Yankees is Rizzo, who puts up a strong fight but ultimately strikes out. Volpe, showing great patience, draws a walk on an 0-2 count. Wells has a promising 2-2 count while Volpe confidently steals second base. This ignites Wells’ energy as he delivers a powerful hit into center field! The ball bounces off the wall, and K. Hernandez has a bit of trouble getting to it. Although Volpe hesitates to come home, it’s a moment of excitement, and there’s still plenty of time for the Yankees to score!

Verdugo bats a sacrifice ball that brings Volpe in. Score 2-1 Dodgers. Wells is out off of a hit to short.

Score: 2-1 Dodgers

Ohtani, Betts, and Freeman are all out in the third inning, ending the inning without scoring.

Dodgers pull Casparius and bring in Hudson to pitch. Juan Soto bats and on a 2-2 count he is struck out by Hudson. Aaron Judge comes to the plate as the crowd chants MVP. Judge is hit on the left wrist by Hudson. Chisholm hits to center field and takes first and Judge takes third. Stanton swings and it looks like he’s hit by the ball but it’s called a foul ball.

Chisholm successfully steals second base while Hudson delivers a pitch to Stanton. With one out recorded, Hudson walks Stanton, thereby loading the bases. Facing Rizzo, Hudson experiences difficulty as Rizzo hits a pop-up, resulting in the second out for the Yankees. Volpe then connects for a home run into deep left field, executing a grand slam that brings in four runs and secures the lead for the Yankees.

Score 5-2 Yankees

Dodgers couldn’t ease the damage done by the Yankees in the bottom of the third. The top of the third ended with no additional score on the board for the Dodgers.

Landon Knack, the third pitcher for the Dodgers, steps in to pitch for the Dodgers. He gives up a base hit to Verdugo. The fourth ends with no additional scoring for the Yankees.

Score: 5-2 Yankees

Will Smith steps up to the plate for the Dodgers in the fifth, ready to make his mark against Yankees’ Luis Gil. He launches a fly ball deep into center field—it’s a single home run! The score now stands at 5-3 in favor of the Yankees. With no outs, Edman comes to the plate and draws a walk, igniting hope in Dodgers fans. And here comes Ohtani who steps up to bat as he gears up to be the tying run!

The Yankees swiftly remove Gil from the game, replacing him with Tim Hill in an effort to prevent any potential damage from the potentially dangerous Ohtani. Ohtani makes contact with a ground ball to center field, reaching base and advancing Edman to second.

Betts hits a grounder to short, and Ohtani‘s out. Freeman steps up and smacks one to center, initially called out, but the Dodgers put in a challenge and it gets overturned.

Hill is taken out by the Yankees and replaced with Holmes in hopes of repairing the damage being caused by the pitching team. Holmes pitches to T. Hernandez who pops one up into center field and is out.

Score: 5-4 Yankees

Knack continues to pitch for the Dodgers and allows Judge to hit and get on base due to and error by Edman. Chisholm is walked and Stanton comes to the plate and is struck out again in the series.

With two outs and two strikes Soto looks to do something helpful but can’t connect with the ball as he strikes out.

Score: 6-4 Yankees

Mark Leiter Jr. pitches for the Yankess as he pitches to Smith and strikes him out. Edman up with Ohtani waitng on deck. Leiter walks Edman and Ohtani comes up for the tying run. Edman steals as Ohtani has a 2-2 count and there’s one out on the board. Ohtani strikes out. Leiter is pulled from the game after he strikes out Ohtani. Two outs for the Dodgers as they face another pitching change by the Yankees.

The Yankees bring in their closer Weaver to face Mookie Betts. Three outs as Betts strikes out. The fans are thrilled as the game moves into the bottom of the seventh bringing the home team one step closer to winning what could be their final game of the series is they don’t stay ahead of the Dodgers!

Knack faces Judge for the third time in the game in the bottom of the seventh. A full count on Judge when he flies to center field and is out. Chisholm is out and Stanton bats as he looks to do something but crashes and burns for the third out of the inning.

Score: 6-4 Yankees

The Dodgers chance to sweep the Yankees gets slimmer and slimmer as they are not able to score and take the lead from the Yankees. Weaver throws to Freeman who hits one to center field and is out. One out in the eighth as T. Hernandez takes the plate and Weaver strikes him out.

Muncy is next to bat with two outs on the board. The Yankee fans are excited as Muncy takes his second strike and then strikes out to close the inning.

Honeywell Jr. pitches for the Dodgers in the bottom of the eighth looking to keep the Yankees from widening the score. Volpe hits and doubles off of Honeywell. Wells with a full count is walked with only one out on the board. Alex Verdugo gets the chance to keep the momentum going when Volpe and Wells steal bases – second and third.
