Soon the regular baseball season will begin, and fans of the game are excited in hopes of having bragging rights if their team becomes the next World Series champions.
Spring Training in Major League Baseball is super important because it gives teams a chance to check out players, build up team vibes, and get ready for the season ahead. During this time, coaches and managers can see how skilled both rookies and veterans are, but they also get to see how they handle pressure and their overall attitude.
Are they focused on the goal?

A winning season
This evaluation is very helpful for teams to figure out their rosters and pick the top athletes that match their game plan. Also, Spring Training is a great chance for players to connect with each other, building that camaraderie and teamwork vibe that’s crucial for a winning season.
A winning season contains these 5 things:
- top athletes
- a strategic game plan
- players connecting with each other: camaraderie and teamwork
- effective training programs
- fans who energize and motivate the players
Practices are usually packed with drills that focus on communication and teamwork, which are important for any winning team.

Additionally, the informal setting of Spring Training encourages players to test out creative strategies and plans that they might not be able to in the competitive setting of everyday regular-season games.
When did Spring Training begin?
Spring training kicked off way back in the mid to late 1800s. Teams from the chilly parts of the country were on the hunt for warmer spots to get their practice in before the regular season rolled around.
The birthplace of Spring Training
Hot Springs, AK served as the initial “birthplace” for Spring Training.
In order to prepare the Chicago White Stockings (now the Chicago Cubs) for the upcoming baseball season, team president Albert Spalding and manager Cap Anson came up with an amazing plan to train in Hot Springs back in 1886.
Other teams follow the White Stockings lead
Other teams such as the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Dodgers, and Boston Red Sox began making the trip down to Arkansas’s Hot Springs as well for spring training.
Two training locations today
Since 2010, major league teams have mainly chosen Arizona and Florida for preseason training, with fifteen teams in each location, providing great experiences for fans and players.
