Considered one of the greatest pitchers
in baseball history.

The night was set for Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers’ left-handed pitcher, to do what few others, especially left-handed pitchers, have done: reach 3,000 strikeouts in a home game.

Having achieved a total of 2,987 strikeouts, as tonight’s game began, Kershaw only needed 3 strikeouts to capture the milestone of three thousand strikeouts.

The Chicago White Sox held him off until the fifth inning. Kershaw got one strikeout in an earlier inning, and the next one came at the end of the fifth when he struck out #50 Lenyn Sosa.

One Strikeout To Go

As Kershaw Goes for a Significant Moment in His Career, an Unforeseen Event Occurs

In an effort to secure an out, Max Muncy jumped up to catch the ball and tag the runner at third base. In his attempt to avoid landing on the White Sox player, he came down awkwardly on his left knee and fell on the ground in obvious pain. Muncy was assisted off the field for evaluation.

The Spirit of Dodger Stadium

With Muncy out and Kike Hernandez coming in to take over at third base, Kershaw took the mound and got his 3,000 strikeout against Vinny Capra of the Chicago White Sox.

His wife cried and his children clapped and cheered in celebration of their father’s triumphant milestone. He is the 11th youngest player to reach 3,000 strikeouts.
