On Sunday, July 5, 2026, The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will mark the 250th anniversary of the United States with a special broadcast of Music & the Spoken Word. Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid will serve as guest narrator.

A NATIONAL MOMENT
Reid, a three-time Super Bowl champion, will reflect on unity, perseverance, and faith in the American story.
“I spent more than a decade just down the road from Independence Hall, where our Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence,” Reid said. “They faced adversity, stayed the course, and built something that has endured for 250 years. I am honored to join the Choir in a place that reflects that same spirit.”

A LEGACY OF MUSIC
The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is nearly 180 years old. The ensemble has performed worldwide, including the 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and multiple U.S. presidential inaugurations. President Ronald Reagan called the group “America’s Choir.”
In 2003, President George W. Bush awarded the Choir the National Medal of Arts for its impact on music and global audiences.
A MESSAGE OF FAITH
Choir President Michael O. Leavitt said the program highlights religious freedom as expressed in the Declaration of Independence.
“The Tabernacle Choir lends its voice to celebrate the freedom of religion proclaimed 250 years ago,” Leavitt said.

A GLOBAL BROADCAST
Music & the Spoken Word first aired on July 15, 1929. The program has aired every week since. More than 12 million people in over 50 countries tune in each week across radio, television, and streaming.
