Dodgers Acquire Two-Time Cy Young Winner Tarik Skubal in Blockbuster Trade

The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially acquired two-time American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for top outfield prospect Zyhir Hope and right-handed pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith.

Skubal, who was spotted at Dodger Stadium during Sunday’s game against the Boston Red Sox, now joins Los Angeles after another strong season in Detroit.

The 29-year-old left-hander is 7-5 with a 2.79 ERA in 16 starts this season. Since returning from the injured list following elbow surgery, Skubal has posted a 2.87 ERA with 71 strikeouts over 53.1 innings. He also reached the 1,000-career strikeout milestone in his most recent start.

Skubal captured back-to-back American League Cy Young Awards in 2024 and 2025, becoming the first repeat AL winner since Pedro Martínez in 1999 and 2000. Across seven Major League seasons, he owns a 61-42 record with a 3.04 ERA and 1,005 strikeouts in 863.1 innings.

Dodgers Part with Three Young Players

Heading to Detroit are outfielder Zyhir Hope, one of the Dodgers’ top prospects, along with right-handed pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith.

Hope was batting .293 with 23 home runs and 87 RBIs at Double-A Tulsa this season. Ryan made his Major League debut with the Dodgers in 2024 before undergoing elbow surgery, while Smith spent this season between Low-A Ontario and High-A Great Lakes.

The move adds one of baseball’s premier starting pitchers to a Dodgers rotation looking to strengthen its postseason push.
