Join Carla on a journey to Ghana, Italy, Turkey, and other places as she explores America’s most delectable cuisine, which includes chicken pot pie and ice cream, starting on February 1. Carla explores the origins and ancestry of various meals, learning about their interrelated, global roots and cultures that helped shape modern American cuisine. After all, without understanding a dish’s background, you can’t truly appreciate it. Come along with Carla as she explores flavors from around the world to discover how they all combine on an American plate.

Six Half-hour Episodes

Carla delves into American mainstays like shrimp and grits, hot chicken, barbecue, and more over the course of the six half-hour episodes. In one episode, Carla embarks on an unexpected dairy journey to learn the history of ice cream that takes her from the US to Italy and Turkey. As she visits the best ice cream shops in Philadelphia and New York, Carla discovers the secret churning techniques that provide the velvety, smooth texture of this beloved treat.

Carla’s Journey Reveals the Influences That Have Created American Food

Carla’s adventures don’t end there. She visits Mexico in search of tacos and learns how cultures converged to produce tacos al pastor thanks to a vertical flame. She also looks at how Jamaica influenced the light crust of chicken pot pie, and she visits Ghana to sample the origins of hot chicken with chef Eric Adjepong. Carla’s journey reveals the influences that have created American food with each meal in every nation.

“Chasing Flavor” will be available for streaming on Max starting February 1, with the series produced by Fremantle’s Original Productions for Max.
