Baby2Baby, a nonprofit organization, has provided over 450 million essential items to children in need nationwide in the past 13 years. Recently, they revealed plans to expand their efforts to address maternal mortality with the support of a substantial grant from Huggies. This year, Baby2Baby will collaborate with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Huggies to distribute Maternal Health & Newborn Supply Kits in 10 states, significantly increasing their impact compared to the previous year.
As Mother’s Day Approaches
In anticipation of Mother’s Day, Ciara, Olivia Wilde, and Kelly Rowland, along with Baby2Baby Co-CEOs Kelly Sawyer Patricof and Norah Weinstein, and HHS Deputy Chief of Staff Angela Ramirez, volunteered at Baby2Baby headquarters to assemble Maternal Health & Newborn Supply Kits for mothers and infants facing hardship. These kits are packed with essential items such as diapers, hygiene products, breastfeeding supplies, postpartum care, and educational materials to support the well-being of both mother and baby.
The initiative aims to assist new mothers who are struggling with mental health challenges and cannot afford the necessary supplies for their babies.

Maternal Mortality Rates in the United States Have More Than Doubled
Over the past two decades, maternal mortality rates in the United States have more than doubled, and mental health issues have been identified as a significant factor contributing to this crisis, particularly affecting Black mothers. In an effort to address this urgent problem, the Biden Administration partnered with Baby2Baby and the Department of Health and Human Services to launch a pilot program. This successful initiative initially focused on three states with the highest rates of maternal mortality and child poverty: Louisiana, Arkansas, and New Mexico. Encouraged by the positive outcomes, the program is now expanding to include seven additional states: California, New York, Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia.

“We’re thrilled to announce the expansion of Baby2Baby’s initiative to combat maternal mortality. This generous grant from Huggies will allow us to deliver essential supplies to new moms immediately after giving birth across ten states,” shared Baby2Baby Co-CEOs Norah Weinstein and Kelly Sawyer Patricof. “Not being able to afford basic essentials for your newborn takes a profound toll on a mother’s mental health and that is why these kits are so critical, not just for the baby, but for the mother too.”
Huggies Believes in Supporting Changemakers Like Baby2Baby
“Huggies believes in supporting changemakers like Baby2Baby to uplift communities and address grassroots needs. With this new partnership, we are helping ensure equitable access to these essential supplies for all families, building on our more-than-a-decade long history of providing over 300 million diapers to those who need them most. We are delighted to have this opportunity to strengthen the work being done by Baby2Baby and the U.S. Department of Human and Health Services to support mothers and children across the country,” said David Kellis, Head of Social Impact for Kimberly-Clark/Huggies.
Coming Together for a Great Cause
Expanding the program allows us to help more families in more states and close gaps in maternal health care that exist across the country.
“The partnership with Baby2Baby provides much-needed supplies and educational information to mothers and their newborns. Expanding the program allows us to help more families in more states and close gaps in maternal health care that exist across the country,” said HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. “Every mother should have access to the support they need for their family to be healthy. The Biden-Harris Administration will continue to use every lever available to support these women and their families until they do.”
