Monday, March 30, Ulster University gave an Honorary Doctorate to former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at its Belfast campus to honor his work in public service, environmental advocacy, and the arts.
Schwarzenegger, born in Austria, has had a long career in sports, films, and public service. He was the 38th Governor of California, promoting environmental projects, civic leadership, and charity.

His Return To Northern Ireland
The trip to Ulster University Belfast marked 60 years since his initial visit to Northern Ireland.

Schwarzenegger said:
“Education is the foundation – it is a great springboard for your future. The more knowledge you have, the better you become, whether that’s in academia, business, film, or in sport. That is why institutions like Ulster University are so important – this is where you build your knowledge, your confidence, and your future. There is no better place to do that than at a reputable university like this.”
Vice-Chancellor of Ulster University Praised Schwarzenegger
Professor Paul Bartholomew, Vice-Chancellor of Ulster University, praised Dr. Arnold Schwarzenegger for significantly influencing global culture in sports, film, and public life.
He highlighted Schwarzenegger’s journey from an athlete in Belfast to a worldwide leader and activist dedicated to environmental advocacy and philanthropy, remarking on his inspirational impact on Ulster University students.
