During the team’s series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Dodger Stadium will host Dodgers Alumni Weekend, a three-day celebration honoring many of the franchise’s important players since the team relocated west in 1958. The event will take place on Friday, August 9, through Sunday, August 11. Along with new honors for outfielders Dusty Baker and Matt Kemp, as well as Hall of Famer and former Dodgers owner Walter F. O’Malley, the Dodgers will honor over forty significant figures in their club history.
Dusty Baker admitted into Legends of Dodger Baseball
Before the Dodgers play the Pirates at 7:10 p.m. on August 9, Baker will be admitted into the exclusive Dodger Baseball Legends group, which honors those who have contributed to the team’s long-standing success both on the field and among its supporters. Known for transforming the left-field stands into “Baker’s Field,” Baker was one of the most well-liked Dodgers of his time. He spent eight seasons with Los Angeles between 1976 and 1983, during which he won two Silver Slugger Awards and a Gold Glove Award. Two National League All-Star teams selected him, the first one in 1981 while he was leading the Dodgers to their sixth World Series victory.

On the final day of the 1977 season, Baker hit his 30th home run of the year, making Major League history’s first 30-home run foursome along with Steve Garvey, Ron Cey, and Reggie Smith. Baker was an outfielder in the National League who spent time with the Dodgers. He finished fourth with 144 home runs, fifth with 586 RBI, and sixth with 1,144 hits.
Alongside Don Newcombe, Steve Garvey, and Fernando Valenzuela (2019 inductees), Kirk Gibson and Maury Wills (2022), and Manny Mota and Orel Hershiser (2023), Baker will be the eighth Legends of Dodger Baseball inductee.
“It’s a tremendous honor,” Baker said. “And, it’s a bit of a surprise, especially for a kid from Riverside that used to listen to all the Dodger games and Vin Scully. All the Dodger greats that I used to copy and emulate, it’s a little strange for me to be up there honored with them.”
Alumni Grand Reunion
Before the Dodgers play Pittsburgh at 6:10 p.m. on August 10, there will be an Alumni Grand Reunion with players from every decade since the team’s 1958 relocation to Los Angeles. Former World Series winners, MVPs, Rookies of the Year, Cy Young Award winners, All-Stars, and more will return to the Dodgers.
Along with the retired numbers of players Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider, Gil Hodges, Jim Gilliam, Don Sutton, Sandy Koufax, Fernando Valenzuela, Roy Campanella, Jackie Robinson (whose No. 42 is retired throughout baseball) and Don Drysdale, managers Walter Alston and Tommy Lasorda, and broadcasters Jaime Jarrín and Vin Scully, the Dodgers will welcome Hall of Fame owner Walter F. O’Malley, whose vision drove the team’s relocation to Los Angeles and the innovative creation of a new home for baseball. On behalf of his father, Peter O’Malley, the former president of the Dodgers from 1970 to 1998, will accept the award at the event on behalf of the O’Malley family.
Matt Kemp Day
The weekend’s events will culminate on August 11 with Matt Kemp Day, which will be celebrated with an on-field pregame ceremony, prior to the Dodgers’ 1:10 p.m. game against the Pirates. Kemp made his Dodger debut at the age of 21, and he played for ten seasons (2006–14, 2018) in Los Angeles, hitting 203 home runs during that time, ranking fourth all-time among L.A. players. As the only Dodger with 200 home runs and 150 stolen bases, he is most noteworthy for his 39 home runs and 40 steals in 2011, a season that earned him distinction as an All-Star and a Silver Slugger and placed him only behind the winner of the NL MVP Award. Kemp has won two Gold Gloves and was an All-Star three times.

“The Dodgers were the ones who gave me the opportunity to put a big-league jersey on and live out my dream,” said Kemp. “So to be able to put that jersey back on and to be able to be around all the fellas, it’s kind of nostalgic, and it’s very exciting to be back in L.A.”
