The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Secretary Kennedy, and the Department of Agriculture, Secretary Rollins, announced the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025 to 2030, marking a significant update in federal nutrition guidance with a focus on consuming real food.
A Health Crisis Driving the Change
America faces a growing health emergency tied to diet and lifestyle.

• Nearly 90 percent of health care spending goes toward chronic disease
• More than 70 percent of adults are overweight or obese
• Almost one in three adolescents has prediabetes
• Diet-related illness now prevents many young adults from qualifying for military service
The new Guidelines respond to these trends with a focus on prevention, strength, and long-term health.
Returning to the Basics of Nutrition-reduce highly processed foods
“These Guidelines return us to the basics,” said Secretary Kennedy. “American households must prioritize whole, nutrient-dense foods, protein, dairy, vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, and whole grains, and dramatically reduce highly processed foods. This is how we Make America Healthy Again.”
Secretary Rollins emphasized the broader impact on families and food producers.
Rollins stated that under President Trump’s leadership, the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans will prioritize families and children while supporting American agriculture by increasing the availability of nutritious foods like protein, dairy, vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, and whole grains.
Food as the Foundation of Health
The New Pyramid

The 2025 to 2030 Guidelines place food, not medication, at the center of health. The update restores the food pyramid as a practical education tool and reinforces scientific accountability across federal health guidance.
The approach favors clarity over complexity and flexibility over rigid rules.
